Talent is a very unique term, it reveals a lot about the person in consideration, however the skill of the person remains shrouded. Now I do think that talent comes in many forms, whats the recognition for it? well that comes later. Even handling that symmetric teapot with watertight fingers and filling up the teacup to its brim is a talent(well, not everyone can do it perfectly). Sounds a bit unusual but if you dwell into it you realize that you are ignoring that "special" something about yourself. Some talents have a shelf-life, a tennis player would testify that 20 to 32 age, a student shows off his whizz till 25(to get a great job at least).
The aforementioned talents are recognized and they collect the applause from the society in general. However, that is not the end of it, artistic talent is a much darker deal owing to the fact that it pushes the boundaries of acceptance(a reason for it to not manifest itself). Again, art, like sports, is anything which you have but never cared to pursue it. Why? Because it doesn't garner cash, at-least in the conventional (read 9 to 5) sense. That my friend, is the answer to the puzzle of recognition which i had mentioned earlier. Everyone has a talent, which ironically in many instances are only realized when the protagonist meets a dead end of a conventional living.(Sachin Tendulkar and Cricket....there was nothing separating the two....and he did it to perfection)
In a sense, you realize whats in your bottle when you are lost in the wilderness. So, you are not your batch topper? Don't worry your batch topper is no Roger Federer, who in turn is no Barack Obama, who in turn....I guess you get the idea. The comparison above doesn't demean any of the gentlemen mentioned, that goes for you too.
